I attended the Novice info and first class. I was very unhappy to see that there were over 40 dogs in the class. Way to big and and noisy. Bruce was arrogant and condescending. My dog had an accident despite not having eaten in 8 hours. One of Bruce's assistants grabbed my dog and yanked him up off his front feet and continued as he squealed My dog is gentle 6 month golden retreiver. I could tell this man and his methods were not for me and I withdrew. I have since found a personal trainer who does not use Bruce's abusive methods.
Keep up the great work!
We have bought supplies from here a few times over the years. Years ago we took our dog here for a training class. We were ready to get rid of the dog for being aggressive and this was our last ditch effort before selling him. The obedience class completely transformed our dog. He was one of the best behaved dogs we have ever had, child friendly, and never showed aggression after that class.
I see a few negative reviews and I have to wonder if this is the same place we took our dogs!! We have been thru multiple classes with Bruce and his staff- and we have referred some of our best friends to take their dogs here. NEVER in a single moment have we experienced one bit of negative treatment to a dog- nothing but positive reinforcement for the animals- and nothing but patience from Bruce and his staff. He has a dry sense of humor- and I suppose a very sensitive person might get their feelings hurt if they don't understand his joking around. I believe in Bruce and his staff enough that I would be willing to meet anyone in person at the location and share our personal experience.
Reading other reviews makes this place sound like Bruce is an abusive, demeaning trainer, which could not be further from the truth in our experience. He is playfully sarcastic (with the owners, not the dogs), which I thought added a lot to the learning experience. There is nothing abusive our aggressive in his training methods for the dogs and they do NOT "break your dog's spirit", as one reviewer reported. You can tell immediately that they care about your dog's well-being at First Friends K-9.
Great people, excellent training. Just make sure you've trained yourself or it's all in vain
I recommend it wholeheartedly and will be enrolling our dog in the novice class.
We just completed the Puppy Kindergarten course and I have nothing but the highest praise for Bruce and his staff. I can't speak for any of the other classes or boarding, but we were very impressed with his puppy class and the professional manner in which it was run.
